The values of a luxury car have changed dramatically in recent years. Increased comfort, space, silence and speed are no longer enough. Nowadays people also want higher seats in traffic, so add an electric car right away, ‘but I don’t want to be in a charging station every two hours’. The answer to all your problems of the first world can be found in the BMW iX xDrive50 full electronic. We did our last attempt at the EV-luxury and took a well-packed über-SUV, to Berlin.

What is the BMW iX xDrive50?
After starting early and promising in 2013 with i3 and i8, the BMW power plan has moved to lower voltage. The contest was successful and the brand was allowed to seek re-launch of its creative i. This started with the BMW iX3, the EV version of the standard BMW X3. Beginning with caution, but in the following style it was decided that it was time for the flag. The final expression of how the elegant BMW electric car in column i can be seen.
The result of this is a BMW iX, an 4.95-seat electric SUV with a height of 4.95 meters that should completely forget about the petrol race. Looking at a special paper shows that this is not a half-test. In the iX xDrive 50 configuration, the WLTP column is 630 km long. 523 hp power and not less than 765 Nm of torque comes from two electric motors running both front and rear axles.
The result is a time of 0-100 km / h of 4.6 seconds and a top speed of 200 km / h is not much later. Once out of the Autobahn, it is possible to charge up to 200 kW with a suitable fast DC charger. The 105.2 kWh battery pack is then charged from 10 to 80 percent for approximately 34 minutes. Or alternatively, a distance of ten miles per minute. So diversity of concerns should not be a problem in our journey.
How does it work?
Before departure, it appears to have a full 100% battery pack, the displayed range is only 520 km. Now, as with any other electric vehicle, the frequencies shown will be less than WLTP number. However, at a price of 134,218.04 euros such as our test car, most buyers will experience the first EV nuisance soon. Fortunately, the ranks are still more than enough for four to five hours on the highway. Carrying luggage, passengers and electricity, we are safely on our way to the German border. The silence inside the cabinets is impressive, as is the number of foot rooms per passenger. Even for people over two meters sitting behind each other there is no problem.
In the driver’s seat, the driving position is comfortable but sporty. Image of BMW iX xDrive50 driving behavior. Power at 100 km / h is impressive, but power over 100 km / h can be even greater. Once you cross the Dutch-German border, the foot goes completely to the floor, and this is where the iX shows its true strength. Acceleration is almost proportional to any speed below 180 km / h. The massive 765 Nm torque allows you and your passengers to reach 200 in a short time and even at high speeds, iX does not seem to be very impressed with the whole spectacle. Only the sound of the tires will be able to pass through the cupboard a little. German concrete layers form a smooth type of additional bass under your German technology music due to the hydraulic suspension system.
Consumption at high speeds remains limited. At 100 km / h consumption is 21.1 kWh / 100km, at 120 km / h this rises to 23.1 kWh / 100km and at the highest speed remains around 30 kWh / 100km. In other words, at 120 km / h you get a distance of 43 km less on charge than at 100 km / h.
The number of instant payment centers in Germany has now exceeded 7,000 in more than two thousand locations. Especially alongside the Autobahn, finding a place to charge faster than 200 kW was not a problem. iX also helps you with this by showing the appropriate charging areas on the moving system. If the last stop on the navigation is more than the frequency range allows, stopping should be included in the trip. The battery pack will be pre-charged before charging so that higher charging speeds can be achieved. A speed of 150 kW has been achieved very quickly, even when the original condition has not been achieved.
The thing that BMW iX xDrive50 does very well is making you forget what kind of car it is driving. In this case, this is not an attack that the car has no character, but rather it can do everything that non-electrical competition does. The force of force can feel like a back kick when you step on a pedestal in depth, but at the same time be as calm as an air mattress gently tapping over the ocean waves.
In addition, you almost forget that it is an EV because the column is not a problem easily. BMW thinks together in planning the route and on vacation the driver needs to stop before the car. The Driving Assistant Specialist provides the BMW iX with a number of safety features – which I will avoid with its abbreviations.
Strictly speaking, the car follows the predecessor at a distance, and the car’s headlights automatically move away from the track and will prevent it from passing the drivers on the right (if this is checked). Along with signal recognition, this provides a very complete package when it comes to safe operation of the highway.
There is a lot to be said about the structure, especially the front causes a lot of controversy that Mustang Mach-E can also be about. However, there is no dispute that the BMW iX has many ‘road presence’. It is a car that you will definitely look at a second time, especially in the amazing color of the Aventurinrot III with gold accents.
In terms of structure, it is the iDrive system where there are stitches. It was decided to give a rotary knife a so-called looking glass to the base of the wood. Not only does this appear to be outdated within five years, white icons are also unreadable when even the slightest sunlight shines on them. Let us consider the differences in taste.
Anonymity persists as we move apps and menus across the media screen. There are few apps on the average phone and this causes frustration and discomfort while driving. Luxury is likely to choose, but in this case less would be more
Where rear passengers have more space, this unfortunately does not apply to luggage. The space, quoted for 500 liters, looks ample, but the stems are cut diagonally. This ensures that the space becomes smaller as you pile higher. For four people there was enough space to carry luggage for midweek. In addition, the electric gate does not automatically stand on the lower ceiling, resulting in very narrow parking spaces.
There is no shortage of technology in our BMW iX. Front and back there are enough facilities to allow a good holiday trip to pass. For example, the electronic flag has a 12.3-inch digital tool pole and a 14.9-inch media screen. Despite the fact that the iDrive system has become a bit more open in this version, the operation is still simple. The rotating knife and the touch screen capabilities are still simpler than just the touch screen. Here, more is more.
The navigation system shows you the way to go in three different places. Navigation information is available on the media screen, instrumental column and header display. On the media screen, iX displays camera images and arrows on it that point you in the right direction.
The Bowers & Wilkins speakers system has also been added. Thanks to more than 30 speakers spread over the entire cupboard, there is no bass vibration through your seat, pedal and steering wheel. Fortunately, this can still be changed, but from the factory the music will vibrate through the cabin even on the smoother settings. Then you should be careful when removing soda cans from the console of the cooled facility.
In addition to the many leg rooms, the back also has individual climate control and heated seats. A total of four USB-C doors can be found, if skillfully integrated behind the front seats. There is also an interesting sliding feature here. This is the basis of the various devices that BMW provides for the rear space. Think of a clothes hanger, a tablet holder or even a folding table.
Conclusion BMW iX xDrive50
As a concept, the BMW iX does not make sense. Driving an electric car for more than 500 miles in an SUV with a BMW badge is very tempting for many people. Like a vacation car, it has completed its task more than enough. The navigation system twice took us in the wrong direction. This is not a problem, but due to the many arrows of augmented reality you have a tendency to agree with BMW, even if you see that Berlin is at the very top. Also, luggage space in the negative sense, this is very small for a large SUV.
However, these are some of the points on a holiday trip that you are especially grateful for BMW iX very nice. The navigation system thinks with you to plan the trip as efficiently as possible. When it’s time to charge again, a short 30 minute break is often enough. The most interesting thing is how iX feels at home on Autobahn. The acceleration is impressive at any speed and the sense of variety of anxiety leaves you well on the rear view mirror as well.
