Bonovo was surprised: “Assen was forgotten” / Superbike World Championship

After the 2024 World Superbike Championship meeting in Assen, Bonovo action BMW team owner Jürgen Röder was more frustrated than ever and left immediately after the second race.

Scott Redding’s eighth place finish in the first Superbike race should serve as a highlight for Bonovo’s move to the Superbike meeting in Assen. That alone wouldn’t be so bad if it weren’t for ROKiT rider Toprak Razgatlioglu’s second place and victory in the main race, showing what is possible with the M1000RR.

But it is not only the 2021 world champion who is ahead, Michael van der Mark also achieved single digit results in every race. The Turk and fellow Dutchman scored a total of 64 championship points at the TT Circuit. In comparison, the driver yields of Bonovo Redding and Garrett Gerloff look very modest at just twelve points.

Not surprisingly, team owner Jürgen Röder was more frustrated than ever after the third race of the season. “It was an unforgettable weekend,” Hessian gushed. “Everybody, every team had to deal with bad weather and we had to live with it. We weren’t even close to achieving the goal we set for ourselves in Assen to finish in the top 10 together and I left Assen yesterday for the first time very frustrated immediately after the race and thinking what can be done better.

What distinguishes the wise Röder is that he does not look for reason in the pilots. “Maybe it’s because we’re trying so hard and we want to do it with all our strength and that means we’re overcharging the drivers. “We’ve definitely seen an increase in performance, especially with Scott, who was eighth in the first race,” says Röder. “The problem. ours starts at the Superpole. Here we were in 17th and 15th place and therefore behind our potential, something we have been carrying since last year. This is one thing that needs to be completely improved. Of course, 15 minutes is a short time here, but everyone has this problem, not just us. Then of course we still have pressure from the second BMW team, which is more successful than us. BMW gives us the same material as the other teams, so that’s not a problem. We have to interpret the performance and performance that BMW offers us in the right places.

Röder continues: “Now we have to look inward, look at ourselves and make sure we are faster. Of course we always want to try to be better. We do everything we can, as do the drivers. Scott battled his way up from 15th to ninth at the start of the second race, then went out, obviously unfortunate, but it’s part of the race. That was very disappointing for us and for him as well. All of us in the team put a lot of pressure on ourselves to perform and maybe reduce that a bit. I’m thinking of doing something relaxing with the team to see that we can do well again at Misano.”
