Alfa Romeo lost in Formula 1 midfield? Valtteri Bottas is demanding more progress from the Alfa-Sauber team in their pursuit of championship points.
important points in brief
- After a good start to the season, Alfa-Sauber is in a bad situation.
- Recently, Valtteri Bottas missed the mark several times.
- The Finn fears that his team will miss the connection with the midfielder.
Valtteri Bottas scored six points in his first seven races for Alfa Romeo. Recently, however, the Finn’s form in Formula 1 has been on a downward spiral: From the last four Grands Prix, Bottas only scored the most World Cup points at the Canadian GP.
Will Alfa-Sauber turn the tide in Formula 1?
In Azerbaijan and more recently in Austria, the two-time world vice-champion finished 11th and missed the points. In the overall standings, Alfa-Sauber has lost ground to Alpine and McLaren.
The Finn was upset by this after the Austrian GP – also because Haas scored with sixth and eighth places. “We tried everything, but in the end we didn’t have the speed. It’s a shame, no points for eleventh place.”
Bottas is not satisfied with the progress at Alfa Romeo
Fernando Alonso grabbed the final point for tenth place from the Finn at the last minute. “Fernando was caught quickly, he was on new tyres,” Bottas told RacingNews365.com. And more: “He caught me on the last lap, that was embarrassing.”
The former Mercedes driver puts a stick in Alfa Romeo’s window when it comes to development: “The performance has never been better,” Bottas says. “We really had a feeling that we should have been better. We should have been in the top ten,” said Finn.
“Now we have to look closely at why that didn’t work. And we have to keep making progress because all the other teams are doing it too,” Bottas said.
