NATO MINI BRIDGE EXHIBITION OVER MERWEDE

During the Cold War, in the 1950s, there were top secret plans for the construction of an emergency NATO military bridge over Merwede. An exhibition in one of the gunpowder magazines at the De Hoop mill on Dalemwal tells the story of this bridge with pictures and video presentations. The exhibit was put together with the help of volunteers from Fort Altena, a fort that played an important role in the history of this emergency bridge. Even after the Defense Heritage Weekend on April 20 and 21, the exhibition can be visited until May 26. Opening hours are from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon.

The Gorinchem Castle Working Group is part of the Oud-Gorcum Historical Society. Use of the Powder Magazine is provided free of charge by the Conference.
