A Closer Look at the Stylish New Electric SUV

Cadillac lovers have eagerly awaited the arrival of the Cadillac Optiq, and the wait is over. The luxury carmaker recently launched the Optiq, first online for the first time in China and later at the Beijing Auto Show. While we got a taste of the Optiq’s exterior back in November, this latest reveal allows us to take a closer look at its cabin design.

When it comes to the interior, the Optiq shares similarities with its older sibling, the Lyriq. The steering wheel and curved display of the digital cluster are similar to what we saw on the Lyriq. However, below the instrument panel beltline, the two designs diverge. The Optiq has a horizontal trim feature in its central area. This trim can reflect the ambient light, creating an interesting visual effect. The horizontal lines featured on the door cards match this aesthetic, adding to the overall cohesive design.

Moving down, we notice that the Optiq takes a different approach compared to the Lyriq. Instead of a convex bottom, Optiq opts for a concave design. This unique feature adds an interesting visual element and creates more depth in the cabin. In addition, there is an open cubby under the HVAC controls, providing convenient storage space for passengers. To accommodate our modern lifestyle, Cadillac has also included two USB-C ports on the left side of the hub, to ensure that occupants can easily connect their devices without any hassle.

Moving our attention back to the outside, we’ll discover another important feature of the Optiq – its U-shaped DRL (Daytime Running Light) design. Animated clips on Cadillac’s Chinese website show how this pattern differs from the wreath found on the Lyriq. This unique light signature adds to the Optiq’s overall appeal, making it instantly recognizable on the road.

Underneath its stylish exterior is the same BEV3 platform that underpins the Chevrolet Equinox EV and Buick Electra twins. Specifications for the Optiq, as listed by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), show that it shares the same 116.3-inch wheelbase as the Equinox EV. In terms of size, the Chinese market Optiq is 189.8 inches long, 75.3 inches wide, and 64.6 inches tall. Compared to the Equinox EV, the Optiq’s roof sits slightly higher, while other dimensions remain the same. Compared to the Lyriq, the Optiq is shorter and narrower, but its roof stands nearly an inch higher.

In terms of performance, the Optiq impresses with its capabilities. Weighing in at 4,850 pounds, this compact CUV can reach a top speed of 112 miles per hour. The Optiq has a single Ultium electric motor, which drives one of the axles. According to CNEVpost, there are two trim levels available in China, with slight differences in roof height. One trim produces 201 horsepower, while the other trim boasts 241 horsepower. It is expected that there will be at least one AWD (All-Wheel Drive) trim available in the US, matching the Chevrolet Blazer EV’s power output of 288 horsepower and 333 pound-feet of torque.

For those eagerly awaiting the Optiq’s arrival in the US, Cadillac has confirmed that it will be available later this year as a 2025 model. While full details have yet to be revealed, we can expect to learn more about this exciting new offering at the Beijing Auto Show on April 25.

In conclusion, Cadillac’s Optiq brings a new and unique offering to the luxury electric vehicle market. From its attractive exterior design to its carefully crafted interior, the Optiq aims to win the hearts of car enthusiasts. With its powerful performance and advanced technology, Optiq positions itself as a strong contender in the increasingly competitive electric vehicle segment. As we eagerly await its arrival in the US, there’s no doubt that the Optiq will appeal to consumers looking for an engaging driving experience.
