Gironde: the manufacturer Cadillac puts on a show in Cadillac

The automaker Cadillac is holding a show in Cadillac-sur-Garonne! The American brand that belongs to the General Motors group presented its new electric model this Saturday morning in the Gironde bastide: the Lyriq, High quality SUV for 82,000 euros.

Historical links between the municipality and the builder

You have to go back in American history to understand why the Cadillac brand is called Cadillac. In 1701 the city of Detroit was founded by a Gascon named Antoine de Lamothe-Cadillac. This traveler originally came from Tarn-et-Garonne but had taken the name Cadillac, in memory of his father’s friend, then lord of Cadillac-sur-Garonne. Two centuries later, in 1902 in Detroit, a car manufacturer launched a brand and chose to pay homage to the city’s founder by naming it “Cadillac”.

Since then, the manufacturer has come regularly to the bastide to present its new models. Sometimes the company takes a checkbook to help the municipality in the case of a severe blow. This is what happened in 1952 during a terrible fire at the castle.

At the Lyriq launch event this Saturday, the manufacturer announced that it could contribute to funding new lighting for the castle. General Motors will also support Cadillac in its journey toward electrification, through installation of 3 double charging stations for electric vehicles .
