Cadillac is bringing its electric cars to Europe. The first available is the large luxury crossover Lyriq, which will later also be available in a particularly sporty version. The subsidiary of General Motors announced that the series will be the first electric car in the V series in the form of the Lyriq-V, which will be launched on the market in 2026.
“The Lyriq-V is an incredible representation of the luxury, performance and innovation that is the foundation of the Cadillac brand,” said John Roth, vice president of Global Cadillac. According to reports, the model will initially be launched in the home market of USA and Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Additional markets will be announced later.
The V Series, which celebrated its 20th anniversary this year, is Cadillac’s performance sub-brand and is considered “the benchmark for performance and innovation at General Motors,” according to the US distributor. “In the era of electric mobility, the V-Series vehicles will stand out with their exceptional performance, instant acceleration, competitive range and standard all-wheel drive.”
Cadillac released a 30-second video showing the Lyriq-V in action. No technical information about performance, range or cost. The Lyriq is based on General Motors’ Ultium platform. The standard model’s twelve-module battery pack with a capacity of 102 kilowatt-hours (kWh) and two drive rods ensures an estimated range of 530 kilometers according to the WLTP standard. System output is 388 kW (528 hp).
The five-meter long SUV Lyriq will be followed next year by a smaller SUV called the Optiq with a length of 4.80 meters. “This shows that we are investing in this market for the long term,” explained Jean-Pierre Diernaz, head of marketing at the newly founded Frankfurt-based General Motors Germany GmbH, recently. The brand wants not only to sell cars in Europe, but also “to create a new recognizable luxury brand.”
Cadillac is expected to have a complete portfolio of electric vehicles by 2030. In addition to the large SUV Lyriq, which can already be ordered here, and the announcement of the medium-sized Optiq battery, an electric version of the mega SUV Escalade was presented. The Celestiq luxury sedan will be produced in limited numbers starting this year.
In addition, another crossover is planned, the Vistiq, which will be positioned between the Lyriq and the Escalade. Another electric sedan is also expected.
