Classic cars on the best circuit in the world! What is better? The Spa-Classic promises to be an unmissable event for historic car enthusiasts. In addition to the activities at the famous F1 circuit in the Belgian Ardennes, the 2024 edition will also be amazing with the organization of exclusive exhibitions of Porsche 917, a timeless icon in the world of motorsport. The collection features several distinct models, each with its own chassis number and unique story in the world of racing.

PORSCHE 917 EXHIBITION: OVERVIEW

Porsche #917-043
Assembled in June 1970 in a long tail version, it is notable for finishing second in the 1970 24 Hours of Le Mans with Gérard Larrousse and Willi Kauhsen, behind another Porsche. In 1971 he again took part in the event under Gulf colours, but had to retire despite having the fastest time in qualifying. In 1975 it was purchased by Vasek Polak under chassis number # 917-044. After the expertise proven by Porsche, it was renamed according to its origins and restored in a long tail configuration.

Porsche #917-025
#917-025 was the last chassis built to receive Porsche 917 homologation. After its conversion to a short tail version, the car was sold to the Zitro Racing Team in July 1970. In 1971 the car participated in the 1000 kilometers of Buenos Aires, Spa and Monza… In 1972 the Porsche was sold to the Fittipaldi brothers, before being sold to David Piper and Richard Attwood, restored, and later to Miles Collier in 1982. . In 2005 Peter Vögele got a car to participate in various races.

Porsche #917-021
Porsche #917-021 was built in March 1969, then converted to a short tail version in April 1970 before being sold to Aarnio Wihuri’s AAW team. He participated in the 1000 kilometers of Business and Monza. Then the car participated in the 24 Hours of Le Mans with David Piper and Gijs Van Lennep, but had to give up after the accident. The chassis was rebuilt with that of #917-012, designated #917-021/012. It was used in the Interserie by Van Lennep and achieved promising results. In 1976, Joachim Grossmann found a chassis without an engine, rebuilt it with an engine he bought from Willi Kauhsen, and registered it as #917-021/012.

Porsche #917/10-002
The chassis was completed in July 1971. The car was competed in Can Am by Jo Siffert, who gave an impressive performance. Despite the limited participation, Siffert finished fourth in the championship. After the season, #917/10-002 was sold to Willi Kauhsen, modified for European Interserie racing, and achieved seven podium finishes in nine races in 1972. However, in September 1972 he was the victim of a fatal accident at the Nürburgring. . The car was badly damaged, and although Kauhsen was burned, he decided to save her. In 1998, Kauhsen decided to bring him back. He used original drawings and called on people involved in his early development at Porsche. After several changes of ownership, she was restored in 2017 and given a new 1971 Siffert livery.

All this promises to be a unique meeting with celebrities from the world of motorsport, with their expertise and interesting stories to draw visitors into the fascinating story of the Porsche 917.

EXHIBITOR
The Exhibitor Village, which has also grown in size in previous editions, will remain in the middle of the field, near Eau Rouge. It gives artists, tailors, booksellers and other retailers the opportunity to showcase their creativity to an audience of enthusiasts.

ANIMATION
Spa-Classic will offer many activities suitable for all ages: concerts, exhibitions and parades of vintage scooters, dancers from the 40s, 50s and 60s, vintage decoration artists, temporary tattoos, mini shows, photo opportunities .. .in a festive mood with music provided by DJ vinyl.
