Warsaw GP: First Pole Mateusz Cierniak / Speedway GP

You can’t imagine a bigger stage than the Speedway GP in Warsaw for the first time in the World Championship. This is what two-time SGP2 champion Mateusz Cierniak is getting now.

It was only a matter of time before Mateusz Cierniak made his Speedway Grand Prix debut. On 11 May the time has come for the 21-year-old Pole. For the GP in Warsaw, where more than 50,000 spectators are expected again, the young Pole will enter the race with the organizer’s wild card and make his debut as a GP driver.

Cierniak has won everything there is to win at the U21 level over the past two years. He became the U21 world champion in SGP2 in 2022 and 2023, as well as with the Polish team at Speedway of Nations 2. In the U21 World Championship, Cierniak emphasized his potential by winning four of the six SGP2 races. He also celebrated two league titles with Lublin in the Polish league.

In addition to Cierniak, two Poles Bartlomiej Kowalski and Damian Ratajczak were appointed as reserves for the main event in the Polish capital. Last year’s GP drivers Patryk Dudek and Maciej Janowski, who also did not receive a permanent card for the 2024 World Cup after failing to qualify for the games, were not considered when the cards were issued for the GP in Warsaw.
