The director of the Middle East and Africa area of Stellantis, Samir Cherfan, revealed the submission of a request to the relevant Algerian authorities, to import and sell in the Algerian market, the type of high-quality Italian Alfa Romeo cars.
This announcement was made by Mr. Cherfan, during a meeting with representatives of the national media, including the newspaper El Khabar.
Alfa Romeo is an Italian car manufacturer founded on June 24, 1910 in Milan, a subsidiary of the Stellantis group since January 2021 after being part of the Fiat SpA group and the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) group from 2014 to 20212.
It should be noted that Stellantis currently imports two car products in the Algerian market, namely Fiat of Italy, since March 2023 and Opel of Germany, since November last year.
For Fiat, some 97,000 vehicles were imported into the Algerian market after a year of operations.
The Italian brand also saw the launch of its factory in Oran last December. The plant should produce 40,000 vehicles in 2024, according to Samir Cherfan, before reaching 90,000 per year and more than 35% of the assembly rate from 2026.
The Regional Director of Stellantis also mentioned the possibility of manufacturing the German Opel brand in Algeria, and launching the Fiat “Tipo” in its “Coupe” version on the Algerian market, according to the same source.
