a forgotten alternative for families, for less than 40,000 euros

Families have been treated to very few features since the beginning of the year. In France alone, we can mention the new Renault Scenic E-Tech and the new generation Peugeot 5008. This segment therefore does well and still allows customers to choose from several models according to their budget. But away from the spotlight, another supercar continues its merry way without making waves: the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer. This starts at 39,360 euros and even offers a choice between petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid!

It should be noted that since the beginning of the year, all eyes have been on the new Renault Scénic E-Tech, which everyone sees as a new benchmark in the family car market. Recently, it shares the spotlight with the new Peugeot 5008, also available in a 100% electric version. A little chauvinism never hurts, but sometimes you have to know how to expand your field of vision. This allows us, for example, to study the case of the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, a wide model that does not like to be in the spotlight.

It is true that BMW has not communicated much about the second generation of its 2 Series family. While the first one was available in 5- and 7-seat versions, this one has only one row of seats in the back. But, after all, few models now offer more, except for a few. But, for less than 40,000 euros for the entry-level version, the German has all the cards in hand to please our famous French reference.

Under the hood, the king’s choice!

One of the main strengths of this 2 Series Active Tourer is the range of engines! Unlike many of its competitors, which are only available in 100% electric or hybrid form, German is available in petrol and Diesel, as well as plug-in hybrid! An option that allows you to plan long journeys more calmly, like going on vacation for example, without worrying too much about planning routes based on battery charging stations.

The base version, the 218i, has a 136 horsepower 1.5-cylinder engine mated to a dual-clutch gearbox. It offers a trunk volume of 470 liters, a figure that rises to 1,455 liters once the rear seat is folded down. Standard equipment includes LED headlights, electric tailgate, dual-zone automatic air conditioning, dual-screen infotainment and digital instruments, but also parking assist and cruise control. It costs 39,360 euros for this trim with access to the petrol version, while the Diesel costs 41,860 euros, compared to 51,110 euros for the PHEV version.
