Fredrik Lindgren: “I can improve even more” / Speedway GP

Fredrik Lindgren finished the 2023 season as runner-up. The Swede was on the podium in six of the ten doctors. In Warsaw he was on top. He believes he can continue to improve.

The most points in the World Championship bring the final participation and the best GP victory. Fredrik Lindgren participated in a total of eight finals, but unlike world champion Bartosz Zmarzlik, he won only one, while the Pole won five.

The fact that Lindgren was unable to take advantage of the Pole’s mistake at the Grand Prix in Vojens with a poor race suit and disqualification result was due to the fact that Lindgren only scored five championship points at the Teterow GP. Meanwhile, Zmarzlik had created a consistent scoring streak over the course of the season.

In order to beat Zmarzlik, who has been in good form so far, Lindgren will have to produce a better performance. “I have worked hard on my summer condition this winter,” the Swede said a few weeks before the start of the GP season in Gorican at the end of April, “I try to get the best out of every round and achieve more victories. I want to keep working on my start. I really believe that I can improve with my mechanics and my team.”

To focus on the Grand Prix, the 38-year-old player has just signed a contract in the professional league in Lublin and, along with the Polish league, only participates in the Grands Prix. “At the stage I am in my career, I believe it is better if I drive a little and have time to rest with the family. But that can still change,” explains the Swede, why, unlike his GP competitors, he only signed in one league.

It was also interesting to hear the Swede’s thoughts on how he feels about qualifying as the longest-serving GP driver and what he thinks about the fact that World Championship points can now also be scored there in individual events. “I haven’t thought about it yet. But there is a chance to get points there and we will try to do that,” said Lindgren about the points awarded in the playoffs and the importance of choosing the starting position. “It depends on the route how important that is. Before the race you never know how the starting positions will develop, but as a rule it is better to start from the inside twice.
