Chevrolet Corvette C8 sales through the roof

For those who were still skeptical about the popularity of the Chevrolet Corvette C8 and its mid-engine concept, the need for a true American sports car has never been greater. The factory already reached its production level in its first year.

Chevrolet already has more than 40,000 orders for the Corvette C8, which is more than Chevrolet will build in the first year. Production begins in February. In fact, the first copy should have been with the seller by now, but the UAW union acted by calling on its members to strike. Therefore, the car manufacturer could not complete the construction of the previous version and then adjust the production line for the latest generation.

Europe

A full order book means that the sports car will also be available for the European market later. The first prototypes should go on the boat next summer. That may not be until 2021.

Bowling Green

Chevrolet builds the Corvette at the Bowling Green plant in Kentucky. The center opened in 1981 and started with the fourth generation Corvette. Later, C5, C6 and C7 were born at the factory. The Cadillac XLR was also produced at a special facility. The very first prototype of the C8 will be auctioned by Chevrolet in January, and not this one…

Corvette in two flavors

With the new Corvette, Chevrolet offers the first generation with the engine not in the front but in the middle of the car, behind the seats. The power source remains unchanged, a naturally aspirated V8 petrol engine with no electric assist. The block is good for more than 500 hp, which is traditionally transmitted to the road through the rear wheels. Chevrolet has announced just one engine, but more will follow. What there is already a choice of are body variants. The manufacturer offers it as a coupe with an open roof and as a Convertible with a folding hardtop. Corvette pricing starts at $59,995 in the US. The convertible costs 7.5 grand more. Dutch prices are not yet known. In Germany, a sports car costs at least 100,000 euros.
