There is no power record. The two engines in the latest Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray combine to make 655 hp, 15 hp less than the single 5.5 V8 in the Corvette Z06. But the E-Ray is the fastest production Corvette ever, accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in about 2.5 seconds.
Corvette E-Ray: hybrid car, performance
The E-Ray is the first production Corvette with a hybrid drivetrain. The 6.2-liter V8 with two valves (!) per cylinder is accompanied by an electric motor and a traction battery with a capacity of 1.9 kWh. In addition, it is the first production Corvette that can move only on an electric motor – that’s the Stealth drivetrain.
The hybrid system develops 655 hp, while the combustion engine has 495 hp and 637 Nm of maximum torque. The V8 has a half cylinder deactivation system under reduced load. Drive goes to both axles.
The Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray received Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes and suspension. 20-inch wheels are fitted as standard at the front, 21-inch at the rear. Carbon fiber rims are available at an additional cost.
Corvette E-Ray: design
Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray is 469.9 cm long, 202.5 cm wide and 123.5 cm tall. The car is available in coupé and convertible bodies, and the former weighs at least 1,712 kg.
The first hybrid Corvette was introduced 70 years after the debut of the first mass-produced Chevrolet with that name – a combustion engine, still 6 cylinders and … 150 hp.
