Chevrolet offers electric motors for conventional cars

Chevrolet will bring a new aftermarket electric powertrain to the SEMA360 tuning show. They do it with the 1977 Blazer. The introduction of the first electric version should be the start of the ‘eCrate’, which Chevrolet gives owners of classics the opportunity to ‘defile’ their old or young with a green car.

Chevrolet will show its first convertible during SEMA360. There are already many companies that convert classics into EVs, but a traditional car manufacturer that offers a conversion package is quite unique.

Chevrolet Blazer

The standard American SUV traditionally has a 177 hp 6.5-liter V8. Chevrolet swaps this engine block for an electric motor from the Chevrolet Bolt. With 200 hp (147 kW) and 360 Nm, the electric motor offers more than its V8 fuel. This electric car is mated to a four-speed electronically controlled transmission. The transfer case and axles all remain original to the electric Blazer.

Battery

Although there is plenty of room under the hood for that little electric motor, the cargo floor is covered by the battery. The 60 kWh package is not yet in the American truck bed. We see cables going to the battery and nuts sticking out, but hopefully this is all just to show what the technology looks like.

A set

In addition to the electric motor and battery pack, the ‘eCrate’ offers electric power steering, an electric pump that provides vacuum for the conventional brake system and an electronic controller that shows the percentage of electricity being used in the battery.

Who will do that?!

Good American style, with such a big V8 sound. Many people will say that it would be a shame to put a silent electric car there. But there are also plenty of people interested in modifying their Blazer: “Minutes after Chevrolet showed off the E-10 concept, customers started calling to ask how they could build their own EV project,” says Russ O’ Blenes, director of Chevrolet.
