A future electric sedan from Chevrolet?

Chevrolet, which will soon return to Europe, may use its Chinese partner Wuling to launch electric sedans in the continent. The new Starlight would have every chance with us…

It will be eleven years this year since Chevrolet was no longer sold in Europe.

Chevrolet, soon to return to Europe

Formerly a historical builder with us, started making cars on the continent in 1936, at the Swiss factory in Bienne. Oldsmobiles, Buicks, Chevrolets and Cadillacs rolled off its lines until 1972, when it closed its doors for the last time.
General Motors (owner of Chevrolet) decided at that time to focus on its European subsidiary, Opel.absorbed in 1929. Chevrolets then evolved alongside their German cousins, until 2013.
Since the sale of its subsidiary to PSA in 2017, General Motors (GM) had only a weak presence in Europe: only the Cadillac XT4 was produced in recent years.. But the group plans to return in the coming months, only with electric models from Chevrolet and Cadillac.
And in this game, GM could use its Chinese partner Wuling to launch lower-priced models there. The Chinese group already offers several models for emerging markets, especially in Mexico where Captiva (Wuling Almaz), Aveo (Wuling Xingchi), Hurricane (Wuling Hongguang V) et S-10 Max (Maxus T90). The SAIC-GM-Wuling joint venture may offer other models on the European market this time.

Low cost electrical designs thanks to Wuling?

We already know that GM plans to return with three battery-powered models: the Chevrolet Blazer EV and Equinox EV, as well and Cadillac Lyriq. Three models that share the SUV body between them.
But, even if electric SUVs have been touched in Europe (Tesla Model Y was the leader in the continent in 2023), another type is thriving: that of electric sedans.
The latest BYD Seal, Nio ET7, Volkswagen ID.7, BMW i5 and Hyundai IONIQ 6 confirm this. To get its share of the pie, given that it does not have any such model in its range, Chevrolet may use Wuling to launch electric sedans in Europe.
And the new Starlight EV launched today could be a part of it… It’s a model placed in segment D, which shows. streamlined silhouette set on 18-inch rims. On board, it’s clear, refined, and the famous 15.6-inch screen sits in the middle of the cabin.
Wuling promises a trunk volume of 540 liters, compared to that of the Tesla Model 3, with its 542 liters. One 136 horsepower engine is offered, associated with a 54.3 kWh battery that allows 510 kilometers of autonomy in the Chinese circuit (about 408 kilometers by our European standards)

This new Wuling Starlight EV is attractive and well-positioned compared to the market leaders, which would be popular with us if it were distributed under the Chevrolet badge. Bets are open!
