This Chrysler is a rare example of an Australian muscle car. Today, collectors buy it at auction.

When it comes to talking muscle cars, the image of America is formed in the minds of many people. It is actually across the Atlantic where these legendary cars were born and built. However, there are rare versions that were created and sold specifically in Australia, or even New Zealand. This is the case of this Chrysler R/T Supercharger1971 model.

More than a muscle car, it’s even a sports car that dominates New Zealand motorsport in the 70s. It must be said that it has one of the most powerful engines that Chrysler could offer at that time, a six-cylinder producing just over 300 horses. Today, one of the rare examples of this muscle car is for sale in Melbourne, through Collecting Cars.

The Chrysler Valiant Charger R/T is part of the fourth generation Valiantand in particular the VH range – a line which was sold in Australia between June 1971 and March 1973. Introduced by Chrysler, it was for the American manufacturer to compete with Ford XY Falcon GT and Holden LC Torana GTR XU-1 in the Australian market.

Not every Charger was designed as a sports car. Chrysler Australia offered two versions: the base model, the XLand the best example, the R/T (for Roads/Paths). It is the last one that was used for Australian motor racing. And he won his first race in Sydney, the Toby Lee 100.
