Chrysler: Renaissance soon with a new EV?

Here in Europe we often talk about Lancia, which has been demoted from a European ‘premium brand’ within the Fiat group to a brand that only sells its old Ypsilon in its home country of Italy. But Chrysler, from the same old FCA and now part of the Stellantis group, has gone through the same thing and is now on the verge of collapse, with a model range that has only two models (monovolume Pacifica/Voyager and sedan 300).

The Pacifica is still recent, and was launched in 2016, but the 300 has been around since 2011 and is on the 2004 platform. Furthermore, Chrysler does not sell an SUV and there is no electric version, only the Pacifica can be ordered as. hybrid. The logical result of this is that the sales figures are lower than before, something that can no longer be corrected with the current model range. But Stellantis does not give up on Chrysler and, like Lancia, gives the brand a light at the end of the tunnel: a new electric range.

A great concept car

We get a glimpse of the new Chrysler and an as-yet-unnamed concept car, which was first previewed during the Stellantis EV Day, where Dodge also revealed its plans for an electric muscle car and an electric RAM 1500. The Chrysler EV concept is based on Stellantis’ STLA Large platform, which means it should be a car about 5 meters long, with a battery pack of 101 to 118 kWh. So it’s not a cheap car.

In terms of shape, Chrysler’s electric concept car is somewhat similar to the oversized Polestar 2, with a sedan shape on the upper legs. The proportions are normal, with a long “hood”, despite the great freedom that the electrical architecture provides. Inside, Chrysler equips its EV with a whole array of digital displays for every occupant. Everything seems to be ready for production, but more details are missing. The launch of the new Stellantis EV platforms is scheduled for 2024, and this new Chrysler will probably also see the light of day then.
