Citroen FAF – cheap family car and chevron from Indonesia | French.pl

It is not known exactly when the first Citroën car appeared in Indonesia. However, a list of car brands issued in the Dutch East Indies, now Indonesia, in 1920 also includes Citroën among hundreds of other car brands.

DS came here in the 60s. Among the owners were French engineers who were employed on the Jatiluhur Reservoir project in Purwakarta, West Java, between 1957 and 1967. They probably conveyed to France that it would be worth investing here. In 1975, the first factory of the brand was established – it was in Jakarta. And that’s where the Citroën FAF station wagon version presented above comes from. A fragile body, but comfortable and practical, low fuel consumption, no air conditioning … no cooling in the engine. Why?

Easy to build, easy to finance

Easy to build, easy to finance – that’s an extension of the FAF acronym. The car, based on the 2CV design, appeared in many developing countries, including Indonesia. 2CV chassis and engine, body produced locally, all assembled at low cost, local work. The name is a little surprising, but a great success – in Indonesia, for example, a station wagon version appeared in Indonesia, which you can see in the photo above. The effect? 540 copies were sold in 1980 alone. There may be more, but production has been discontinued. Some models were manufactured here until 1994 (CKD assembly). They were GS, GS Cottage, GS Chic, GS Van and… GSA. But today we will focus on the cheapest model of FAF.

In Indonesia, the car was presented as a family car. In the ad we can read about a reliable air-cooled engine, good suspension, front wheel drive, capacious trunk and spacious interior.

The FAF was presented as an ideal family car, with space and comfort for the interior: an affordable, stylish and practical car.
