In France, preparations are underway to file a class action lawsuit against the Stellantis group. It concerns problems with the 1.2 PureTech engine, which include, among others: damage to the timing belt and blockage of the fuel system, which leads to the seizure of the drive unit. The case will be handled by the law firm that successfully sued Renault for the 1.2 TCe engines.
Christophe Lèguevaques intends to lead the case against Stellantis. He is the founder and author of the success of Renault’s 1.2 TCE engines. He was able, among other things, to obtain documents confirming the liability of the manufacturer.
What oil additive should I use for the 1.2 PureTech?
Lèguevaques, which is currently collecting information and initial reports from affected customers, claims so the size of the case in the PureTech 1.2 case may be larger than the one about Renault. This engine was installed, among others, in Citroën, Peugeot and Opel cars and many customers have encountered problems related to design ideas, such as the timing belt that consumes oil. In the case of frequent short-distance drives, in the PureTech unit, gasoline enters the oil, which loses its properties and begins to wipe the belt., which causes particles to appear in the oil system and clog it. In the worst case, the engine may seize.
New 1.2 PureTech 136 HP engine on the timing chain
Producer changed the used belt several times, has also developed new operational and service recommendations (we will write about them in more detail soon). He also carried out a campaign to inspect belts at service stations and replace and clean them if any abnormality was found. However, the French lawyer claims that this is not enough and intends to first obtain a court order that will allow him to obtain documents from Stellantis about the 1.2 engine and then file a lawsuit.
LOOK! If you have Citroën, Peugeot and Opel cars with a 1.2 PureTech engine driven in urban mode on short trips, it is absolutely necessary to change the oil every 10,000 kilometersit is also recommended to use PB98 gasoline and the use of Tunap Microflex gasoline additive. We also recommend visiting the dealer to check belt status and update contact information in the event of a service incident.
We will soon publish more information on recommended oils for this engine.
