Letter from the Federal Office: Whoever finds it will receive hundreds of extra euros for their car

In the letter, BAFA also lists instructions on how those affected should continue to receive credit from Tesla:

  • Tesla via email Buffer-Umweltbonus-Tesla@tesla.com communicate
  • Specify the invoice number or VIN (Vehicle Identification Number).
  • Attach the BAFA letter to the email
  • Proof of credit (copy of bank statement) with transaction number Send to BUFFER

BAFA is currently giving affected Tesla drivers four weeks to complete the entire process. So far, Tesla has bent over backwards and transferred the missing funds to its customers’ accounts within days.

In response to CHIP’s request, BAFA said:

While checking the processes by which a car from Tesla was leased, errors were discovered in the calculation of monthly lease payments. The monthly rental rate does not fully include the manufacturer’s stock within the rental period specified in the program. In this regard, the deficiency was calculated in each affected application and the applicants were contacted. Tesla has provided a primary point of contact for affected customers, which we will include in letters to applicants.

We also receive positive feedback from applicants; Confirmation of the shortfall transfer by Tesla usually arrives very quickly.

Only leased Tesla vehicles are affected. Tesla vehicles purchased as part of a purchase agreement are not affected.
