Conclusion: The crash kings of the Moto3 2024 / Moto3 season

Moto3 riders David Almansa and Filippo Farioli had the most crashes in the smallest class in 2024. World champion David Alonso ranks sixth in this statistic.

SPEEDWEEK.com has already presented the next season’s kings in the MotoGP and Moto2 classes for the 2024 season. Finally, let’s take a look at the smallest category in the motorcycle world championship.

In the highly competitive Moto3 World Championship, there were fewer accidents this year compared to the two major classes. In total, there were 262 “only” accidents spread across all sessions over the 20 race weekends MotoGP is the leader in these statistics with 335 accidents, while Moto2 has 268.

In the last ten years, there have been only a handful of accidents in Moto3 in 2020 – although only 15 race weekends took place in this Corona-affected season.

David Almansa and Filippo Farioli share the lead in 2024 season stats with 18 tackles each. Behind him is rookie Angel Piqueras with 14 crashes. World champion David Alonso had 12 crashes and is sixth in the table – in 2023 the Colombian had twice as many. Vice world champion Daniel Holgado also learned his lessons from the 2023 Moto3 season – this year he had only half the rides (7). World Cup third place Collin Veijer had to drop eleven times in 2024.

Switzerland’s Noah Dettwiler crashed eight times in his rookie season – one with consequences: On the first lap of the Motegi race, the 19-year-old hit a steep climb. He hit the pavement and broke his tail. Dettwiler returned to the grid in the following race at Phillip Island.

KTM Ajo rider Xabi Zurutuza’s fall at Mugello also ended in pain. The Spaniard broke his shoulder blade with his right upper arm. Zurutuza was back at the start at the next Grand Prix in Assen. David Almansa didn’t even make it to the first Grand Prix of the year in Doha. He broke his arm during training. The Spaniard was present again in the third race in Austin.

As in the other two classes, the most accidents in Moto3 occurred in the race – there were 91. In qualifying 1 on Friday afternoon, Moto3 pilots crashed the second most times (55). In Q1 and Q2 there were 23 and 27 departures respectively.
