KWPN-recognized Jaguar van de Berghoeve brought Jasmine Chen to the World Equestrian Games within six months.

Recently recognized by KWPN Jaguar from Berghoeve is one of the most popular Grand Prix riders at the moment and seems to have everything it takes to develop into a true foundation horse. His rider Jasmine Chen looks back on their impressive sporting career together. “Jaguar is very brave and has a big heart. He can jump the highest obstacles, even if the distance is not perfect,” Taiwanese equestrian Jasmine Chen looks back at the horse she brought to the World Equestrian Games in Tryon.

Jaguar van de Berghoeve is the son of Emerald from the daughter of Nabab de Reve Quaranca de Muze. Emerald x Nabab has proven to be a ‘golden cross’ and Jaguar’s mother line produced a large list of international Grand Prix stallions and stallions. Jaguar’s grandmother Fragance de Chalus is one of the leading horses of the moment and produced, for example, the foundation horses Mylord Carthago and Bamako de Muze.

Twice participating in the Lanaken World Championships

Jaguar van de Berghoeve’s career began in the stable of Karel Cox – who is now the horse’s co-owner. After competing in the World Championships at Lanaken at the age of five and the horse jumping at Mechelen at the age of six, Jaguar van de Berghoeve was sold to British rider Carron Nicol. Under the British flag, Jaguar van de Berghoeve again took part in the World Championships in Lanaken at the age of seven and at the age of eight his career began under Matthew Sampson.

Interesting as an eight-year-old in Hickstead

Under Matthew Sampson, just eight-year-old Jaguar van de Berghoeve flew his first Africa Cup of Nations in Uggerhalne, Denmark, and CSIO5* Hickstead’s participation was inevitable. On the opening day there was an impressive second place in the 1.50m for Jaguar and Sampson and then in the King George V Cup – or Grand Prix – there was another impressive performance by the dark horse. “That’s when I saw Jaguar for the first time and he was very interesting,” recalls rider Jasmine Chen. “I was impressed with how effortlessly he completed the difficult course and how he continued to fly in a good way, despite the extreme difficulty of this famous Grand Prix.” Shortly after, the Taiwanese rider struck and added Jaguar van de Berghoeve to his field.

Open at the World Equestrian Games

Jasmine Chen is an art consultant in everyday life and focuses on buying and selling unique works of art. “Given my professional commitments, I spend less than 50% of my time with horses, which is much less than most top-level riders. That’s why it’s more important to me that my horses have all the strength and heart to help me in difficult course, “says the rider humbly. “Jaguar is very brave and has a big heart. He can jump the highest obstacles even if the distance is not perfect,” insists Jasmine Chen.

Success didn’t take long for the pair and just six months later they competed in the World Equestrian Games in Tryon. Jaguar van de Berghoeve was only nine years old at the time. “This remains my fondest Jaguar memory. It was truly a dream come true to stay clear in the first round of the World Equestrian Games,” says Jasmine Chen. that and Jaguar took me with them and fought to stay open.”

‘The jaguar changes when it flies’

“At home, Jaguar is very relaxed and easy-going,” says Jasmine Chen about the behavior of the Emerald stallion. “He can even be lazy when riding dressage, but everything changes when you start jumping. Then he turns into a horse with blood, intelligence and attention. In the ring I just had to stop him, because he tends to obstacles. If there was a course of 1.20 meters or a parallel bull of 1.65 meters, Jaguar always wanted to go and was always cheerful,” smiles Jasmine Chen.

Increase the power and attitude of the breed

Jaguar van de Berghoeve is now back on Belgian soil and is owned by Karel Cox Horses, Studfarm Berghoeve and Stal van den Bisschop. A son of Emerald from a daughter of Fragance de Chalus is perfectly obtained by breeding with fresh and frozen semen. Jaguar van de Berghoeve was recently recognized by the KWPN and even achieved ‘Elite’ status by the BWP. “Jaguar can suit a variety of horses and can certainly add power and attitude to a breeding operation. He himself has a good-looking model, but he seems to be better suited to thoroughbred horses that can use power and scope,” says Karel. Cox.
