Vanmoof will soon launch a high-performance electric scooter based on McLaren

Vanmoof’s new owner, McLaren Applied, pushed the idea of an electric scooter based on its experience with the Lavoie Series 1, a modern model.

It seems strange, but Vanmoof will sell electric scooters. This car is part of the new rebirth strategy of the Dutch brand, which almost disappeared. Bankrupt last summer, the company was bought by Lavoie, a subsidiary of McLaren Applied.

The most advanced automatic version

The first objectives were to rethink the manufacturing, distribution and relaunch sales of Vanmoof S5 and A5. Connected electric bikes have been available for a few days in Germany and in the Netherlands.

It is from this last country that we learn the second step. The Vanmoof electric scooter is close, according to the press Bright always knows well about the company. According to him, sales “It’s only a matter of time” they would hand over the management of McLaren Applied. Because yes, Lavoie is originally a manufacturer of electric scooters. The young British brand has created the Series 1, a 10-inch high-end model.

Vanmoof electric scooter next to McLaren?

In all likelihood, the Vanmoof version will be very close. “From design to technology to additional features, we believe we are there now”revealed Eliott Wertheimer, founder of Lavoie and now co-CEO of Vanmoof, “We are in the final stages of testing.”

The Lavoie Series 1 focuses on refined design with integrated indicators, and practicality in the form of two articulated hands. So it can be folded in three – with a folding trunk – and reduce its storage space. However, transportation remains difficult, due to the weight of 18.5 to 19.5 kg. The latter is different, because there are two versions of different batteries (468 and 702 Wh), giving respectively 25 and 35 km of autonomy in high conditions.

How much, and when?

And who says McLaren, says the power through the motor 650 W to continue, 40 km/h peak, but also the high price starting from 1,999 euros. We hope that the Vanmoof electric scooter will be reduced to 25 km / h and more available! But when? Knowing that Lavoie begins his delivery in June. “I cannot give the exact date, I do not have the authority to do so” explains the manager, “but it’s coming soon.”
