Actual cost and utility: Mazda 6 G 194 Sports-Line

Exotics are known to have their own uniqueness. The wheelbase of the Mazda 6 is a full eight centimeters longer than that of the most popular station wagon variant. With a length of 4.87 meters, the sedan is quite impressive for the middle class. It offers rear occupants plenty of legroom and ample space for their feet under the front seats. The flat roof alone costs the bedroom.

There is a good workplace in the front row – also thanks to the almost complete equipment of the test car. The materials look very good thanks to the built-in Sports Line Plus package (3,650 euros) with Sen wood, nappa leather and artificial suede. Apart from the electrically adjustable front seats, the package offers few practical advantages, but it makes the Mazda 6 more attractive than its visual promises. However, not everything about the Mazda feels so elegant – the thin metal fuel tank cap, for example, or the remote ventilation for the rear seat. And what about fuel and operating costs?

Our test application

Mazda offers the 6 G 914 Sport Line typical WLTP consumption of 7.4 liters Super. He departs from this value in everyday life. We determined an average consumption of 8.2 liters, which results in a fuel cost of 14.35 euros per 100 km. The Mazda used 6.5 liters in the eco mode, while it used 8.1 liters in the passenger mode. If the Mazda was driven in sport mode, consumption increased to 10.3 liters. Fuel costs are calculated based on the current daily fuel price on our partner website mehr-tanken.de (12.02.2024 / Super: 1,75 Euro/L).

Monthly maintenance costs

Anyone who drives resource-efficiently as we do on our Eco route reduces fuel costs per 100 kilometers to 11.38 euros. Violent speed results in a total of 18.03 euros. Car tax for Mazda costs 218 euros per year, liability insurance is 453 euros. Partial and comprehensive insurance costs an additional 346 and 830 euros, respectively. Monthly maintenance costs of 293 euros are paid by anyone who drives a Mazda 15,000 kilometers a year. If the mileage is doubled, the total increases to 505 euros. This is how testing is done

The automotive and sports test uses consist of three usage trips with different weights. The so-called “passenger use” accounts for 70 percent. This is a journey from home to work that is on average 21 kilometers long. The economy driven period, approximately 275 kilometers long is counted as 15 percent. The remaining 15 percent goes to the driver group of sports. The length is roughly the same as the Eco route, but the route has a larger road surface and therefore a higher average speed. The basis for calculating fuel costs is always the price quoted on the “more fuel” website on the day the article was created.

Monthly maintenance costs include maintenance, wear parts and vehicle tax based on an assumed annual mileage of 15,000 and 30,000 kilometers without depreciation. The basis of the calculation is trial use, three-year holding period, no-claims class SF12 for liability and comprehensive insurance for Allianz, including discounts for garage parking and restrictions for certain drivers (not under 21 years). At Allianz, SF12 means a 34 percent discount for liability and 28 percent for comprehensive insurance.
