At 8 am on Monday, a black Nissan takes the D 649 towards Maubeuge. At the helm, Grégory Pamart feels surprisingly calm. The night was beautiful. “I thought I would be disturbed, but I am at peace…”, tells us, on the phone, a general practitioner from Jenlain, in Hauts-de-France.
Along the way, he leaves behind him the fight over the vaccine against Covid, his refusal of injections, his long suspension. It’s a day of reconciliation, a time of truce. This 34-year-old doctor, who has not treated a cold for a year and a half, is about to appear again in the world of waiters. This time, in the hospital, from where he has vague memories of his training. When opening a new office, he provided welcome assistance in the emergency room, where we are always looking for weapons. The clinic also caught his eye. Discarded in the past, desired today. “In three SMS and e-mails, I had two job offers…”, he smiles, proudly.
Don’t make waves
Since the decree, ten days ago, the dismissed have been authorized to resume service. The government, following the advice of the Higher Health Authority, has removed the obligation of vaccination, taking into account the favorable circumstances of the epidemic. Back here, Dr. Pamart expects discretion, without transparency, so he prefers that we find him at the end of the day, at the door of the CHU.
Elsewhere, hospitals did not want us to see the return of those suspended. “It would be to highlight them, and that bothers us… In addition, they are very few”, we are told. Of the 0.3% of hospital workers and 1,868 independent health professionals, ordered to return their clothes in September 2021, few returned: “200” out of 100,000 in Île-de-France, AP-HP tells us, “13” outside. of 18,000 professionals in Marseille (AP-HM). The decision to return them can be taken, but it is considered “disrespect for weak patients”, according to several doctors, against the wind against the “turning” of the government.
6:30 pm Leather shoes, stethoscope in his pocket, a doctor with round glasses appears, relaxed, in the hospital parking lot. “Everything went well. I’m angry! It’s a little like riding a bike, you can’t forget! he answers, still confused and doubtful. Emphasizing, he says that he plastered in the emergency room, he reassured someone who had cut himself, he was shouted at by another, with anger to wander for three hours. And he answered, without saying much, to questions from his colleagues: “So, what brought you to the emergency room? City doctor in the hospital? “Yes, those who wish can have a general medicine consultation with us”, confirms the Maubeuge University Hospital.
“They haven’t fired me yet, that’s it”
“Doctor? But it’s not true, what are you doing there, are you working here? », Launches, suddenly, a fifty-year-old woman. A former patient has recognized Grégory Pamart in the parking lot. “And yes, at the moment, they haven’t fired me yet, that’s right,” he jokes. “Anyway, don’t stay too long, we need you… how are your children?” Are you expecting a fifth? »
On the way back, to Jenlain, a bourgeois suburb of Valenciennes, the car passes in front of his charming old office, a red brick house. He drew the curtain on September 14, 2021, rejecting this “useless” vaccine against this epidemic, despite many studies proving the opposite. Did he realize that he would leave his patients without a doctor? “Yes! It’s a well-considered choice. But it’s not me who decided to quit, it’s the government!”
During his 600 days of standing, he took the opportunity to live “in slow motion”, presenting himself, without a label, to the parliamentary elections. And… to treat a Covid patient, despite his suspension! “The command called me. It is not clear. I took care of a patient who needed me urgently”, justifies Grégory Pamart. When contacted, the authorities did not respond.
In his future office, the controversial doctor hopes to practice medicine “more natural, unusual and certainly in a hat”. “People will give what they want. It will be with your good heart! »
In a cafe in Jenlain, Marguerite, 65, also recognizes Doctor Pamart! “Everyone regrets…”, he sighs aside. The woman, wearing a red T-shirt, now has to ask her neighbor to take her to the nearest office 4 kilometers away. “She could still have a vaccination or two, huh? Now we’re really upset…”
