Cupra bolsters Leon range with more affordable engines – Spectator

The Cupra Leon, one of the most popular models of the Seat sports brand, will see its range strengthened. The range will continue to offer a range of five-door saloons and the range-topping Sportstourer, but the brand’s most powerful engines, between pure petrol and plug-in hybrids (PHEV), are no longer in the range. will be strengthened by two new versions, with 150 and 190 hp, for which the most interesting values are expected, in terms of consumption and price, while Cupra also promises to improve equipment.

Until now, the Cupra Leon was offered in petrol and PHEV versions. The latter, called e-Hybrid, offered customer versions with 204 hp and 245 hp, the first with the ability to travel 62 km in electric mode, while the most powerful is 60 km. In addition, for those who were not very concerned about the environment, Leon showed two versions of the 2.0 TSI engine, only gasoline, with the first one producing 245 hp, the second, more powerful, raising the bar to 300 hp.

The two new versions of Leon, in saloon and wagon, will now be available with a 1.5 TSI engine with 150 hp, as well as the familiar 2.0 TSI, but this time limited to 190 hp, both with DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission. With less power, the new engines should not compete with others in terms of feeling, but should ensure lower costs and lower consumption. These new engines are scheduled to arrive in our market for the 3rd quarter of the yearthat is, they should be delivered by September.

Cupra’s vice president of Sales and Marketing, Kai Vogler, points out that this diversification is due to the fact that the brand is “always developing a car and increasing the offer” it offers to customers. “With the addition of these two engines, our expectation is for the Leon to achieve the same success as the Superintendent”added the same official.

If Leon’s engines are strengthened, the equipment offer will not be left behind. The new engines will feature full LED headlights, custom bumpers and a body-colored rear diffuser as standard, along with 18-inch alloy wheels. Inside, the sports seats are in cloth, with leather appearing as an option.
