GMC Anantnag Successfully Implements Critical Care Surgery, Pioneering Urological Advanced Care

ANANTNAG:

GMC Anantnag, a beacon of medical excellence in the region, has achieved remarkable success with the successful completion of radical cystoprostatectomy, underscoring its commitment to advancing uro-oncological care within the community.

Today, the medical team at GMC Ang, led by Senior Urologist Dr. Zahoor Ahmad Gilkar with the help of Dr. Malik Suhail (Urologist) and the Technical team performed emergency surgery on a 65-year-old patient diagnosed with Ca Urinary Bladder. The patient had previously undergone endoscopic tumor resection (TURBT), revealing advanced prostate cancer. Dr. Nazir Ahmad Wani, HOD, Department of Surgery supervised the team.

Traditionally, cases of this complexity required referral to respected institutions such as SKIMS Soura or specialized hospitals for radical cystoprostatectomy. However, the dedicated team at GMC Anantnag, with unmatched expertise and state-of-the-art facilities, embraced the challenge, marking a milestone in the region’s healthcare.

The extensive surgery, consisting of TURBT and radical cystectomy, lasted approximately 5-6 hours. Dr. Zahoor Ahmad Gilkar praised the great support of the anesthesia team, led by Dr. Anjum, without which the procedure would not have been possible.

Head of GMC Anantnag, Prof. Dr. Anjum Farhana, praised the team’s exemplary performance, emphasizing the institution’s mission to meet and exceed public expectations by providing high-quality higher education services.

Dr. Muzaffar Ahmad Sherwani, Medical Superintendent AH GMC Anantnag, offered hearty compliments to the team and assured full logistical support throughout the procedure.

This major achievement demonstrates GMC Ang’s commitment to advancing medical care, setting a new standard for urology interventions in the region.
