A test copy of the Leon VZ model in the Cup version came to the CUPRA Studio in Gdynia in a few days. This front-wheel drive hatchback is reminiscent of the “hot hatches” of the times, as compact cars with very powerful engines were called.
The VZ Cup is a new and aggressive version of the Leon, which is available in a total of 10 car variants. The presented variant is available in both versions – hatchback and station wagon. Initially, the offered versions are 2.0 TSI with a power of 245 HP or 300 HP, and as a plug-in hybrid – 204 HP or 245 HP. The Sportstourer station wagon comes with a 310 horsepower petrol engine and 4-wheel drive.
VZ Cup – visual change inside and out
The CUPRA Leon VZ CUP is distinguished from the outside by Dark Alu side sills, optionally it can also have side glass covers made of carbon fiber and 19-inch alloy wheels with the brand’s typical bronze finish. Additionally, the hatchback version uses a rear spoiler made of carbon fiber.
Inside, the dashboard is available in a choice of black or Petrol Blue, with brass stitching. The flat-bottom steering wheel has start buttons, engine start and the ability to quickly select CUPRA classic mode.
Most noteworthy are the Sabelt CUPBucket sports seats, finished in Genuine Black or Petrol Blue leather. The back of the seat is decorated with carbon fiber, and its sides are designed to provide better support during cornering.
300 horsepower “driven” by the front!
The driving experience of the CUPRA Leon in this version is very good. Mainly because it is getting harder and harder to find front wheel drive cars in this class.
Power being transmitted to 4 wheels has become commonplace and many of us have forgotten what it’s like to lose traction when accelerating in 2nd or even 3rd gear with the front wheels! The Leon from CUPRA is a bit of an “old” driving school in a positive sense.
