Nissan shows off a solid-state battery test track under construction

Nissan has revealed a solid-state battery test line being built to the media at its Yokohama plant in Kanagawa prefecture.

The pilot method aims to promote the development and innovative technology of further battery manufacturing.

Under the Nissan Ambition 2030 long-term vision, Nissan aims to launch EVs with solid-state batteries by fiscal year 2028.

Solid-state batteries are capable of an energy density approximately twice that of conventional lithium-ion batteries, shorter charging times due to better charge and discharge performance, and lower costs due to cheaper materials.

Nissan plans to use solid-state batteries in various vehicle segments, including pickup trucks, to make EVs more competitive.

Nissan conducts extensive research and development, from molecular-scale battery material research to electric vehicle development and even city development using EVs as storage batteries. Using this experience, it increases progress towards the goal of practical implementation.
