The Cupra Formentor VZ plug-in hybrid arrives in Morocco

Cupra Morocco expands its offering by launching a plug-in hybrid version of its popular SUV, the Guardian. Following the victory of the diesel version in the market, and in response to the growing demand for a more powerful petrol alternative, the brand quickly launched this new version. Equipped with advanced ADAS technology and its engine, this variant improves the range of the Spanish manufacturer.

Formentor stands out with its bold lines, sporting a design that borrows from the style of SUV coupes, a very popular style at the moment. The sharp contours of the hood and fenders give a sense of power, while the brass accents adorning the logo, rims and exhaust tip add a unique touch. In its VZ version, available only as a plug-in hybrid, Formentor takes on a more interesting look. The different features of this hot version are enhanced, especially with the battery charging hatch discreetly placed on the front left, subtly revealing its hybrid.

Inside, the Formentor retains its infotainment system, with the addition of a dedicated interface to manage the electric system and batteries of this hybrid version. The “Supersport Cupra” steering wheel and dashboard remain unchanged, thus preserving the sporty character of the interior. However, the difference is in the characteristics advanced driver assistance (ADAS) is integrated into this hybrid version. Among these, Pre-Crash Assist is obvious, using camera technology to detect potential collisions with vehicles or pedestrians, which can reduce the impact of a frontal collision, or even avoid it in some cases. In addition, lane keeping assistance, different driving modes and a range of other ADAS improve the driving experience and occupant safety. Technologically, this hybrid version benefits from the same modern equipment as the diesel version, including a large touchscreen, a sunroof and an electric trunk opening, providing a complete package in terms of comfort and convenience.

Formentor plug-in hybrid: 245 hp power

The Formentor is now available in Morocco in a full range including diesel, petrol and plug-in versions, offering a wide range of options that reinforce this Spanish car’s advantageous position in the market. The new plug-in hybrid version combines a 150 hp 1.4-liter gasoline engine with a 116 hp electric motor, producing a total power of 245 hp and 400 Nm of torque, linked to a DSG6 automatic transmission. Powered by batteries with a capacity of 13 kilowatt hours (kWh), this Formentor promises an electric range of 55 km, adding an ecological dimension to its performance.

The Formentor plug-in hybrid is positioned above all as a vehicle aimed at reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, before delivering the typical Cupra design sensations. This approach focuses on efficiency as a priority, closely followed by sports performance, which puts it in line with its market share. Although our tests are yet to be conducted, Cupra claims that the Formentor Hybrid’s chassis is stable and agile, and offers a promising driving experience. In addition, this version is intended for play, thanks in particular to the placement of the battery at the back which contributes to better maneuverability.

The introduction of the hybrid version enhances the range of options offered by Formentor, giving users the possibility to choose the engine that best suits their needs. The program also responds to the growing demand from customers looking for energy and fuel economy. The Formentor VZ PHEV is now available for purchase across the entire Cupra Maroc dealership network, offered at an introductory price of 480,000 DH.
