It was previously an independent producer of Volvo and was responsible for participating in various sports programs of the Swedish brand. The idea to transform it into a manufacturer of electric cars made in China arrived in 2017.

However, an important factor prevented its launch process in the region in 2019: the similarity of its logo with that of Citroën.

Judged drawing very close to Citroen Chevronswhich took Polestar to court for “ fake » and « infringement of its brand “. At that time, the Paris court decided that the French manufacturer was guilty on the basis of theft, but on the second. This legal decision forced Polestar to compensate Citroën in the amount of €150,000.

Finally, the hatchet was buried in 2022, with the removal of these two complaints.
