Dakar 2025: Is Honda already on the verge of failure? / Dakar Moto

After four stages of the Dakar Rally, Daniel Sanders from the KTM Red Bull works team is comfortably in the lead, and four of the five drivers from the Honda Racing Organization are hopelessly behind.

No other factory is sending as many RallyGP drivers to Dakar 2025 as Honda. With two-time Dakar winner Ricky Brabec at the front with Pablo Quintanilla, Skyler Howes, Adrian Van Beveren and Tosha Schareina, the Japanese factory team is wide and promising, but after only four stages – which, along with the introduction, corresponds to six days The world of the famous Honda Racing Organization is no longer hopeful.

After three stage wins, Red Bull KTM rider Daniel Sanders is comfortably ahead with a 13-minute lead, with young Spaniard Schareina in second. The established pilots are about 30 minutes behind and therefore have little chance of overall victory. The reason for this was incorrect navigation shortly before the end of the first part of the marathon.

“It definitely wasn’t the best day of the week,” quipped Ricky Brabec. “I’m open almost all day. I’m very happy with my driving and my navigation. But, yes, with 15 kilometers to go we made a big mistake and that put us out of bounds. From 3 kilometers onwards I held on to the front and with four points to whoever opened the kilometer he’s losing the race. At least we’re here, we’re healthy and we can walk – but there’s nothing we can do about it.”

The American expressed disappointment and frustration after the 48-hour evaluation. “Generally I’m satisfied with my performance, but my results don’t show that. That’s what the rally is,” Brabec complained. «One moment you give your best performance, and the next tip you lost your Dakar. That’s how it is in the rally. If you want to win the Dakar, you should never open and you will win the Dakar.”
