Maserati’s new electric SUV looks dated

Prices start at less than 60,000 euros, so you might think that the new Maserati Grecale Folgore, which starts at 124,300 euros, more than twice as expensive, does everything better. In many places, the exact opposite is the case.

The range is worse despite the larger 96 kWh battery; the first media reports talk about values ​​that make 300 kilometers narrow. And charging is done only at 150 kW, which is a long time for this kind of price.

The Maserati delivers 410 kW (about 560 hp) between two electric motors, but the large battery adds weight and you reach 100 km/h in just 4.1 seconds. Rich enough? Of course, but an SUV for 50,000 euros is enough for everyone.

The trunk volume of 535 liters is not typical for this class of SUV, but that is not surprising since there is a large battery and the platform is not intended only for electric vehicles;

So there is no conflict, at least 22 kW is supplied directly to the AC charging station, a small bonus. But Oliver, why are you comparing that to Tesla? Take the new Porsche Macan from me, it sinks the Maserati SUV in all disciplines. And you save money even with a turbo.

I haven’t driven the two SUVs yet, but I would say that the Porsche Macan Turbo drives better than the Maserati Grecale Folgore.

Why buy a Maserati? For outdated software that comes without software etc? All that remains is the design and image. You can’t make any objective arguments, but Porsche is ahead of me here too.

With the STLA Large, Stellantis is planning the right platform for these electric vehicles; luxury brand Maserati wants to use only electricity before 2030. But this is a combustion engine conversion that would have been expected 3-4 years ago, not in 2024.

Maybe I’m wrong and overlooked something, maybe I’m underestimating a brand that can take its customers in the age of electric cars even without objective arguments, I don’t know. But the SUV doesn’t beat me and Ingolstadt will also present the best model today.
