Dennis Ram: “This exceeds all expectations, now I can enter the House of Representatives”

According to the polls, the PVV has become the biggest winner of the House of Representatives elections. For municipal councilor Dennis Ram, this means that he will enter the House of Representatives.

Hello Dennis! What is your first reaction?
“I am very happy. This referendum exceeds all expectations. We have worked very hard in the past. We put up posters, put up leaflets. Volunteers worked very hard. That is why we organized a fun evening in the city tonight, where we met municipal and regional groups and volunteers.

And then the exit poll comes at 9pm….
“We did not jump from the table, but it was not very different. We jumped from our seats, hands over our eyes. We did not expect this. The latest polls showed us 28, 29 seats. Compared to VVD and GroenLinks-PvdA. That many more seats will be added in one evening I think Geert (party leader, ed.) did a great job last night during the debate about NPO1. The Netherlands wants to take a different course. The Netherlands wants a right-wing cabinet.”

How will this continue?
“We will make it a good evening tonight. I also think that is good for our volunteers, to give them a fun evening. And at the same time, we are waiting for the real results. And we have a big role in the near future. We have to form a good cabinet. But if I can take the opportunity, I would like to thank all the voters. This is a very powerful sign.”

It also has personal consequences for you, because if this continues, you will go to the House of Representatives…
“Actually, I am in the 26th position on the list of candidates. When I was asked by the party if I wanted to be on the list, I thought how nice. What a great sign. I have been active in PVV for fourteen years and I really saw a place on the list as a gift. Until recently, I didn’t even think that I could end up in The Hague. The fact that this is now allowed, when of course we have to keep a tightrope, is undoubtedly good. Someone from Groningen who can represent the area of The Hague, of course that’s always good.

Since the municipal elections she has been a member of the Groningen municipal council on behalf of the PVV. Will that stop now?
“If I end up in The Hague, my council work will definitely stop. It can’t be combined. The city council meets on Wednesdays. In The Hague we work on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. In any case, it will mean that we will have to find a very good successor. Now I am working on several files, such as energy labels, casinos, advertising taxes: which deserve a very good transfer.

It seems you are already thinking about the future…
“A lot of things are going wrong in Groningen. Every street you pass, something will go wrong. And the municipality, the civil servants, are working very hard. But this presents a big challenge for my successor. Today the PVV was elected. And that means that with this trust , we have to defend all the residents of Groningen. Things can be better in the area. The municipal council will also have to listen better to the people. But the popular chaos people don’t listen. It’s a piece of ideological box, and that has to change. People want different.”
