No joke: Sports car builder Spyker will rise from its ashes before 2022!

If you go through the 140-year history of Dutch Spyker, it was more likely to go bankrupt than not. Even with the good intentions of the current CEO Victor Muller, who has been trying to put the brand back on the map since 2000 – and slowly even became the owner of Saab! In 2021, Spyker had to file for bankruptcy after several years of controversy, but now the brand seems to have found new investors again.

Russian money

Of course, CEO Muller celebrated the transition from 2021 to 2022 with lots of champagne. Because on New Year’s Eve, Spyker announced that it has found two new investors. In particular, it concerns Boris Rotenberg and Mikhail Pessis, two leading Russian businessmen who have close ties to Russian President Putin and were expected to join Spyker in 2020. However, Muller needed until December 31, 2021 to convince both masters.

The partnership should ensure that Spyker will come up with a new car this year. Additionally, Spyker dreams up three models in which the V8 engine takes center stage. Not least because in a world that is turning to electrification, there is a die-hard group of people who crave real sports cars with powerful V8s. Not our words by the way, but those of Victor Muller.

Although Spyker does not fully reveal which vehicles it plans to launch, it is most likely the B6 Venator, C8 Preiliator and D8 Beijing-to-Paris SUV. Three cars that we have seen several times in salons in recent years, but have never reached the production stage. Because of the new investors, future Spies will not be only Dutch. For example, carbon fiber parts will be produced in Russia, engineers will come from Germany and assembly will be held in Holland.

The return of Spyker 2022

Will Spyker make it in 2022? After failing to succeed in his goal several times? Is focusing entirely on V8 models the right move? Of course we will see that soon in the good of the Spyker soap!
