Toprak Razgatlioglu (BMW): “I’ve never experienced anything like this” / Superbike World Championship

Toprak Razgatlioglu made it to the top of the World Superbike Championship with BMW sooner than expected; He sees a good chance for Assen to continue like this – second place on Friday.

Phillip Island and Barcelona are circuits where BMW has struggled with grip issues in the past. Professional driver Toprak Razgatlioglu was able to compensate for this and reach the podium four times in the first six races of the year, most recently winning twice in Catalonia.

In FP1 and FP2 on Friday in Assen, the 2021 world champion once again showed strong performances and ended up in second place in the combined time list, a good tenth of a second behind Alvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Ducati) the fastest.

“My feelings are good, I’m happy, the bike is working,” Toprak said. “We only have to adjust the engine braking in a few corners, which was difficult because of the changing conditions. The setting in the rain is also good, the grip is good. 1:43.9 minutes is the fastest time in the rain. We were able to collect data on dry and wet surfaces. moisture, we are strong and not in bad shape.”

The 41-time race winner also had some scary moments in the chaotic weather. “On turn 6 the wind was so strong that I couldn’t turn twice,” Razgatlioglu exclaimed. “Even though I put the bike in the corner, I rode straight ahead. Well, after a few laps I corrected it, but I’ve never experienced anything like that. It was like that for everyone. Everyone turned off the gas early and turned the bike early.”

“I’m always afraid of aces,” he concluded. “I’m fast here, but not the best. I’m happy with the BMW, it even feels better in some corners than the Yamaha. This is because this motorcycle is easy to turn, and the engine brake that works well helps a lot. It seems that many riders are strong, but I want this win. I’ve never won in Assen and I don’t even have a BMW. Why shouldn’t we be successful like in Catalonia?”
