Ever since Dodge unveiled the Charger Daytona SRT concept, the wait for a production model seemed impossible and today is the big day: The 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona is finally here to replace the original model launched 19 years ago! And for the first time in the Charger’s six-decade history, it ditches the V8…
And this will not be the only topic of discussion on social networks as the new charger also goes electric at the same time and reduces!
It’s certain, this new Dodge Charger is likely to make a big appearance. First of all, its new coupe will be complemented next year by a four-door sedan. Charger 2024 will replace the old Charger and Challenger immediately. Both the two-door and four-door bodies rest on the same wheelbase, increased to 3m07, or 20mm longer than that of the old Charger. The overall length thus increases by 203 mm to 5m25. The Charger 2024 is also 127mm wide, which is huge! To better understand this, especially as a European, it is therefore longer and wider than the Mercedes S Class. Therefore, do not expect to lose weight as it advertises 2,648 kg with batteries and electric motors of the Daytona version, the name given. electronic version. This model will be immediately recognized by its “R-Wing” grille, which includes a spoiler on the front hood. So future petrol versions will wear the Charger badge and feature a slightly different front end with a simple domed hood and additional horizontal intakes on the main grille. R/T lettering and the distinctive Scat Pack racing bee logo on the front fenders help distinguish the two versions. The rims are also different from 18 inches for the R/T while the Scat Packs receive 20 inch black rims.
There are also differences between the internal models, which remain pleasantly close to the design promised by the SRT concept. So we get the current dual-screen setup as usual. Both versions have a 12.3-inch central touchscreen powered by Uconnect 5, but it’s joined by a 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster on the R/T and a 16-inch version on the trim. . Scat Pack. Fans will also notice a new interpretation of the stick shifter, although the gearbox here now only has one gear… Cloth and vinyl seats are standard but black or red Nappa leather seats are available as an option, as are sports seats with permanent heads. .
The new Dodge Charger Daytona is based on Stellantis’ new STLA Platform and this is what made its conversion to electric possible. Dodge will also launch several powertrains to create a real range around the Charger, including a high-performance model that could chase down the Tesla Model S Plaid. At the moment, there are only two versions, using 400 volt technology: R / T and Scat Pack.
The Charger Daytona R/T develops 503 hp and 548 Nm, which is not enough to consider a respectable drag race with 0 to 97 km/h in 4.7 seconds and a quarter mile completed in 13.1 seconds. The Scat Charger package, on the other hand, produces 680 hp and 850 Nm, reducing the same performance to 3.3 seconds and 11.5 seconds respectively. However, the maximum power will only be released when the driver presses the “Power Shot” button located under the steering wheel, authorizing an increase of 40 hp in 15 seconds. However, the amazing thing is that the Scat Charger Package goes at a speed of 216 km per hours while the R/T is slightly faster with a top speed of 221 km/h. The dual powertrain offers four-wheel drive as standard on all new Chargers for the first time.
But another aspect of this new electric charger to consider is clearly its performance on the side of the… charger. Here, the R/T claims an autonomy of 510 km per charge while the Scat Pack wins at 418 km. Both take the same charging time though, from 5% to 80% in 32 minutes on a 350kW power supply.
There remains one important aspect to consider when talking about a Muscle Car: the sound. To combat this problem, the two electric Daytonas have a sound generator called “Fratzonic Chambered” which should make the electric versions as loud as the good old Hellcat. The sound changes depending on the driving mode you selected and how hard you press the pedal. As the team is apparently still fine-tuning the audio, Dodge unfortunately isn’t releasing any audio samples to demonstrate this.
In all this, you may already be regretting the roar of the Hemi and Dodge may have something to cheer you up: dealers will also offer two more Charger models, petrol this time (!), from 2025. However, they will be of a reduced size, while the six-cylinder in-line 3.0 twin-turbo Hurricane from Stellantis (with a 440 hp version and another with 558 hp) replaces the big V8. They, moreover, will probably be cheaper than electric models, but will the cleaners be able to be satisfied with them? That is the question…
To appeal to performance fans of the 2.0, Dodge has also planned some perks for its Charger Daytona. Therefore, the Scat Pack offers a Donut Method whose purpose you can easily imagine! It allows you to use a limited slip differential and turn only the rear wheels. This possibility also results in Drift mode allowing you to play tire drag more easily with electronic assistance…
Another unique Scat Pack is the optional Song Pack. It adds large 16-inch Brembo discs with six-piston calipers up front, 305- and 335-wide front and Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar 3 rear tires sitting on wide rear wheels. The setup also includes dashboard controls and a “Driving Experience Recorder” that includes a dashcam, built-in microphone and data recorder.
Other customization packages are planned such as “Plus Group”, “Blacktop”, “Carbon & Suede” and “Sun & Sound” to increase the bill faster…
Dodge isn’t talking about pricing yet, but early estimates put the new entry-level Daytona Charger under $50,000 and the Scat Pack closer to $60,000 when they hit the road this fall.
