Does buying a used BMW C Evolution make sense?

GT’s first electric scooter BMW, the C evolution, has revolutionized low-carbon mobility in the city. But what about its relevance in 2024?

When it was presented in 2014, 10 years ago, the BMW C Evolution was seen as an eccentric scooter. Considered too expensive, his opponents promised him an obscure job, or even a disastrous commercial failure. Then sold for around 16,500 euros, it was two times more expensive than its best competitor available on a car license, the Piaggio MP3 500. And yet…

The key to success was its integration into the same 125 cm3 category and therefore the eligibility of A1 Car license holders for more than 2 years. But with a peak power of 48 horsepower, the BMW C Evolution immediately made all maxi motorcycles seem ridiculous when accelerating. It’s enough to make it indispensable to the profile of customers who always want to own the latest toy.

The BMW C Evolution, with its 8 kWh battery, offered up to about 100 kilometers of autonomy, and at least 60 kilometers without asking any questions about how to drive. Finally, its exemplary reliability, derived from careful manufacturing that meets automotive standards, had the gift of encouragement at a time when Chinese products were already unreliable.

Still a very high score

At a time when the energy transition is now clearly seen to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, given that a used BMW C Evolution is legal. But a quick visit to La Centrale is enough to understand that the rating remains very high for this top car. Of course, there is always room for negotiation between the displayed price and the final purchase price.

Despite everything, today you still have to count around 8,000 euros for an article that shows more than 20,000 kilometers “in battery”. Some models with high mileage start at 3,900 euros but prices can continue to rise above 10,000 euros.

However, at this price level, the buyer is faced with a difficult choice: why buy a used BMW C Evolution when its successor, the CE 04, is more expensive new? The latter, however, is more technologically advanced, and this is normal because it is more modern.

CE 04 offers long term rental deals with no deposit very attractive and which allows you not to tie up money in time. We always come back to the starting point: what is the importance, in 2024, of buying an electric car, motorcycle or scooter? Their anachronism is too quick to be profitable.
