Dominique Aegerter (Yamaha): “Assen is unique” / Superbike World Championship

The 2024 World Superbike Championship started well for Dominique Aegerter with six top 10 results. At the Assen meeting, the GRT Yamaha rider wants to take it even further.

Dominique Aegerter missed the only points this year when he finished tenth in the Superpole race in Barcelona. What he still lacks is the main thing. For the third event of the 2024 World Superbike Championship, the two-time Supersport World Champion has set his sights on his first top 5 result this year.

Hopes have been confirmed: with 6th, 7th and 4th place as a Superbike rider, the TT Circuit meeting was one of his best weekends last year. Aegerter also proved that the race in Assen suits him with four wins from four races in the World Supersport Championship in 2021 and 2022 and a third place in Moto2 in 2013.

“I have very good memories of my time in the Supersport World Championship, but I also had a good race with the Superbike in Assen,” says the 33-year-old. “I think last year’s data will help me start the weekend well. It’s unique, it’s often fast and fluid. There are very few stopping points. In addition, tire management is less important than in the first race and there are no very long streaks.

In the competitive Superbike category, good qualifying is essential for good race placement. At Phillip Island and Barcelona, Rohrbacher got this very well for the second row starting positions.

“We will try to have good practice sessions and do well again in qualifying,” confirmed Aegerter. “After a long break of a month where I didn’t ride a racing bike, I’m happy to continue now. We’ll also do our best in Assen. I want to get close to the top five this weekend.”
