Development of the Skoda Fabia RS Rally2

Led by Swede Oliver Solberg and Czech Erik Cais, development trials were conducted in Sweden and Portugal. Work focused on shock absorbers, transmission ratios and aerodynamics.

“We are always improving the car for our customers. But due to the regulations, after the homologation of the car, we are not allowed to change the technical aspects as we want. Recently we have been focusing on shock absorbers, gear ratios and aerodynamics.

During the first 2 years of the car’s homologation period we are allowed to use only three jokes and another two for safety or reliability modifications.

So far, we have approved only one box layout. But we have two now.” commented Aleš Rada, technical manager of Skoda Motorsport.

Skoda driver since last season, Erik Cais seems to be very satisfied with his team’s work.

“The efforts made by Škoda Motorsport in testing and development are amazing. The dirt shock absorbers, in particular, show a big improvement compared to last year. They hold up very well and, therefore, more confidence for the driver.

For his part, Oliver Solberg highlighted the importance of making a car “easy” for all customers, regardless of their level.

“Our second consecutive victory at the high-speed stages in Sweden proved that the Škoda Fabia RS Rally2 is already very fast. But it is also important for the customer teams that the car is easy to drive and works perfectly in most road conditions.
