F1 GP China: Russell gets new engine, Ferrari and Aston Martin also change parts

Many Formula 1 teams have been busy again in preparation for the Chinese Grand Prix. All sorts of engine and gearbox parts have been replaced and we’ll go through them all with you.

Daniel Ricciardo has received a new chassis from RB, Red Bull’s sister team. It has long been known that Honey he was allowed to sit in another car at the weekend at the Shanghai International Circuit. Ricciardo had already requested it due to his poor performance at the start of the season, but RB made it clear that it was normal to give him a new chassis and use his old chassis and so he was planning to do it anyway.

George Russell has received a new power unit from Mercedes. In addition to the combustion engine, the turbo, MGU-H, MGU-K and exhaust system have also been changed. He had only used one part of each part this season.

The Russell is the only one with an all-new power source in China, but it’s not the only one with a new exhaust system. These have also been modified on the Ferraris of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, the Kick Saubers of Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu, and the Haas cars of Nico Hülkenberg and Kevin Magnussen.

There have also been several gearbox changes on the way to Shanghai. The Aston Martins of Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll, as well as Ricciardo and the Williams of Alexander Albon, have received new gearbox housings, drivetrains and shifting.

None of the above participants have exceeded the limit on the number of engine and gearbox parts you can use this season. According to articles 28.2 and 29.2 of the sports regulations, no grid penalty will be imposed for this.
