Doylestown, Solebury Townships Awarded $1.19M For Improvement Projects

The municipalities of Doylestown and Solebury Townships have been granted a total of $1.19 million as part of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) Local Bridge Program. The funds, which have been allocated to the two townships, are intended to facilitate the improvement of bridges located in the two areas.

According to a statement issued by PennDOT, the two townships were awarded the funds for a range of projects, the purpose of which is to enhance the safety and reliability of their respective bridge infrastructures. As part of the program, Doylestown Township was granted $865,000 for the rehabilitation of the Tohickon Creek Bridge, while Solebury Township received $325,000 for the rehabilitation of the Aquetong Creek Bridge.

The Local Bridge Program, which is administered by PennDOT, provides financial aid for the maintenance and improvement of bridges located on local roads. The program is designed to help local governments in the upkeep of their bridge infrastructures, which are essential for ensuring the safe and efficient movement of people and goods.

PennDOT Secretary Leslie S. Richards highlighted the importance of the Local Bridge Program, stating that “the bridges are important to the daily lives of the residents and businesses in these communities, and this program helps ensure that they remain in a state of good repair.”

The funding will be used to carry out a range of repair and rehabilitation works, such as the installation of new guardrails and drainage systems. In addition, the funds will be utilized to undertake rehabilitation works on the superstructure and substructure of the bridges, which are essential for sustaining their structural integrity.

The Tohickon Creek Bridge, located in Doylestown Township, is a single-span bridge constructed in 1932. The Aquetong Creek Bridge, located in Solebury Township, is a single-span bridge constructed in 1934. Both bridges are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
