Driver facing charges after 6-vehicle crash on Maine Turnpike in Augusta

The Maine State Police reported that a motorist is facing charges following a six-vehicle crash on the Maine Turnpike in Augusta.

The crash occurred on Sunday, November 17th around 10:30 a.m. on the southbound lanes near mile marker 109.

Troopers responded to the scene, where they determined that the driver of a 2008 Infinity had veered across the centerline and into the path of a 2018 Hyundai. This resulted in multiple vehicles colliding, including a 2013 Subaru, a 2015 Toyota, a 2007 Ford, and a 2018 GMC.

The driver of the Infinity, identified as Matthew King, 32, of Fairfield, was arrested and charged with operating under the influence, operating after suspension, and aggravated criminal operating under the influence. He was transported to Kennebec County Jail and is scheduled to appear before the Augusta District Court on November 19th.

The other drivers involved in the crash were taken to nearby hospitals, where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The incident remains under investigation by the Maine State Police.

King has been charged with operating under the influence, operating after suspension, and aggravated criminal operating under the influence. He is currently detained at the Kennebec County Jail and is slated to appear before the Augusta District Court on November 19th.

The other drivers involved have been transported to nearby hospitals where they are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The Maine State Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
