In early March, the Citroen AMI driver wanted to put himself in the shoes of a Formula 1 driver in Monaco. Unfortunately, while taking the famous Fairmont hairpin, his cart turned …
In eleven weeks, the Monaco Grand Prix will be in full swing. But this Saturday the 16-year-old driver thought he was Max Verstappen at the wheel of a Citroën AMItwo-seater electric car that can be driven without a license from the age of 14 and restricted to 45 km / h.
Unfortunately for him, the slowest corner in the F1 world championship, the Fairmont hairpin, was not kind to him. As this video shows, the Citroën AMI makes several passes at high speed before the disaster.
The driver negotiated the descent very quickly. The left tires went dangerously high before the mini city car found itself lying on the ground. The driver and his 22-year-old passenger were immediately treated by emergency services and transported to Princess Grace Hospital Center. They do not have problems with any serious injuries.
AMI can’t be better than Formula 1…
The Fairmont hairpin is a nightmare for pilots. Indeed, this sharp turn of 180 ° requires a passage speed of about 50 km / h in Formula 1 cars. So we are not surprised that the little AMI fails and does not manage to pass the full throttle at its highest speed.
…But something that is very popular with young people (despite the confusion)
As a reminder, Citroen AMI is very popular with young people who are not yet old enough to pass a license. And for good reason, Citroen wagon costs only 6890 euros (ecology bonus deducted) or 34.99 euros/month (after the first tax of 3757 euros). He is for that very cheap and offers a claimed range of 75 km, which is more than enough for daily commutes.
AMI is a hit despite hiccups in its launch. The owners have complained water intrusion, stuck lock, door opening while driving, and so on. These various problems led Citroën to launch a recall campaign to check the car’s waterproofing, door opening and closing systems and the strength of the welding parts.
