Citroen DS – even better when you drive it! | French.pl

It’s the opposite of most cars. What starts out as an attractive beauty in the showroom turns out to be different from the driver’s seat. But not a Citroen. Simply because Citroën was built by a small group of brilliant innovators who didn’t care much about conventional design. What they were looking for was very simple: the best, safest and most well-designed car in the world – we read in the Citroën DS advertisement distributed in the United States.

So they locked themselves inside the company for six months and did not show their projects to anyone. They started from inside. Where people need enough headroom to wear a hat. And leg room. And chairs like sofas. And all kinds of other improvements that are not suitable for cars. And they liked what they got because it was better than any car they had ever been in. Then it was time for the exterior. They wanted a design that would allow the car to go through the air but not necessarily fight it. That’s why the hat bowed beautifully. All wind tunnel tests showed it would work. So they moved to engines. Now they were one step ahead of the competition.

That bodywork was so aerodynamically designed that they didn’t need a monstrous fuel control to power it. So a small miracle was invented with just 117 horsepower, which accelerates the Citroen to a top speed of 185 kilometers per hour (but don’t try it in America, or you’ll end up in court).

Then it was time to stop, which was probably the most creative idea of all. By using compressed air and hydraulic fluid in four different chambers to replace the springs, and combining this with four-wheel suspension, they were able to achieve what no other type of automotive suspension can come close to: eliminating almost all types of bumps. , holes or cracks from the feel of the road while driving.

Of course, the Citroën has a lot more, like front-wheel drive and automatic transmission, but we don’t have space here to tell you about them all. Let’s sum it up: the next time you’re trying to appreciate the beauty of a car, drive it first. Then check it again. It is possible that it will look completely different. If the changes are better, better, then you’ve probably driven a Citroën, the ad ends.
