After the incredible success of the second generation, which brought several driver and team titles in 2019-2020, and many uncontested records (10 wins, 15 pole positions and 28 podiums), the company supported by Stellantis has officially revealed. Its DS E-TENSE FE23, which will start in the ninth season in 2022-23.
The third-generation all-electric vehicle, with its instantly recognizable black and gold livery, fully embodies DS Automobiles principles and is a testament to the latest technological speed.
The FE23 has a number of significant changes compared to its predecessor. The Gen3 cars are the fastest in Formula E World Championship history, reaching a top speed of 280 km/h.while being 60 kg lighter than the Gen2 car. However, efficiency is the most important factor – more than 40% of the energy used during the race comes from regeneration during braking.
More importantly, the DS E-TENSE FE23 is also more powerful – 350kW vs 250kW on the Gen2 car – and is equipped with four-wheel drive. The new front drive adds an extra 250kW to the rear drive, doubling the regenerative power to a total of 600kW. Finally, thanks to the new front drivetrain, the Gen3 is the first Formula E car without hydraulic rear brakes.
Developed by DS Performance, the racing division of DS Automobiles, the DS E-TENSE FE 23 will be the weapon of the DS PENSKE team and its drivers: defending Formula E World Champion Stoffel Vandoorne and Jean-Eric Vergne – the only driver in the Formula. E history who won the title more than once.
Strengthened by its new partnership with PENSKE AUTOSPORT, DS Automobiles remains committed to more victories and titles, including new records, in the all-electric championship, which continues to be a vector of acceleration for its research and development efforts. More than ever, this commitment is an important project for DS Automobiles, which will be 100% electric from 2024.

Season 9 of Formula E promises to be one of the most competitive since the inaugural campaign began in 2014, thanks to the introduction of the new Gen3 car, 11 teams on the grid and revitalized sporting rules. Race distance will now be determined by number of laps instead of time, and teams can quickly load Attack Mode during stops.

Sustainable Development:
According to the carrier, Gen3 batteries are among the most advanced and durable ever made. Minerals from environmentally responsible sources were used in their production, and the battery cells will be reused and recycled at the end of their life.
Recycled linen and carbon fiber will be used in the construction of the car’s body for the first time. Carbon fiber will be recycled from Gen2 vehicles to reduce the total amount of new carbon fiber being created.
The carbon footprint of the Gen3 was measured during the design phase to document the energy saving measures taken as well as the overall environmental impact. All avoidable emissions will be fixed as part of Formula E’s total zero carbon commitment.
