Happy Birthday, DTM – birthday letter / DTM

Dear good old DTM, at the start of the 2024 season on 27/28. April in Oschersleben you celebrate your 40th birthday. You are not what you used to be, but the important thing is that you still exist.

That almost went wrong twice – when you fell into a coma in late 1996 and woke up years later. At the end of 2022, things were very difficult again as you were about to pass out and were only saved by ADAC before your final death.

It is a very big act. That would be very bad, because what is motorsport in this country without you? You are our inspiration after losing almost everything else in terms of high quality games for years. Why exactly?

If ADAC had not saved you, dear DTM, from your last fall with a good sign and accepting you, we would not have anything big that the international situation would have remained here. Best of all, another GT Masters and 24 hour race.

Fans in this country have had to do without Formula 1, the World Sports Car Championship or any other form of formula classes for a long time. How about those times when the F1 drivers later did their basic training in Formula 3 with you as part of the support program. It’s good that you, dear DTM, at least stayed. Your rescuers in Munich deserve thanks and recognition.

So now you are celebrating your 40th birthday in 2024 and you are starting your season of celebrations. You really have to get rid of the three years you were in a coma. But forget it, you woke up again and got a little weak here and there.

Since last year you have had a new, stable life partner by your side in the main ADAC, who gives you and your many fans a safe home and a future. And as for the agony of the lost golden car years – times have changed.

Touring car racing like you and we loved will be no more. We should be happy that we still have sound cars in the DTM. The prospect of grunting and whirring electric cars won’t inspire much enthusiasm for you or the fans. So let’s enjoy what we have and not mourn what was lost.

Congratulations again, dear birthday child DTM. Stay healthy and keep entertaining us all at the race track or on TV. I wish you all the best, a bright future and good health. If you get sick again in your old age, hopefully you will be able to find a doctor who can help you get your strength back. Because one thing is clear – we cannot lose you.

And one more thing at the end: If you really want to be forcibly admitted to the E sanatorium, then firmly refuse and move to the historical camp instead. Some of you from your earlier years have been there for a few years now.

I wanted to tell you all this as a diehard old fan. Again: Happy Birthday DTM.
