Tesla Cybertruck: the rescue rivet

Under extreme conditions, the plate on the Cybertruck’s power pedal can shift and block the pedal in the up position. Telsa is now recalling all previously sold models of the electric pick-up back to the workshop and making improvements – with a simple rivet.

On top of Platform X (formerly Twitter) user Aaron Cash shows how the procedure works. In the workshop, a specially made, simple drilling template is placed under the pedal and a small hole is drilled through the metal sheet with the pedal. The rivet is inserted and is intended to hold the steel rail in place in the future. Although the small part is visible on the clean surface, if you look closely – and who does not regularly look at the bottom of the power pedal in his car – the problem should be solved.

Important for Cybertruck customers: The actual repair is completed in minutes, Aaron Cash even says it only takes 35 seconds. However, this only applies if the metal plate has not yet changed. Inside of Service certificate The Tesla manufacturer explains it like this: Before the repair, you should measure how big the gap is between the sheet metal and the lower end of the pedal. If the gap is more than five millimeters, the entire power pedal should be replaced instead of just fixing it with a rivet. Of course, this takes longer.

The Cybertruck, which costs up to $100,000, is not yet available in Germany. It is not yet clear whether Tesla is targeting sales in Europe and whether the vehicle can meet local safety standards. The crux of the matter is likely to be passive protection for pedestrians: an angular car with its sharp corners and stainless steel body can mean an increased risk of injury. ADAC However, it emphasizes that no conclusive picture on this question can be drawn from the crash test videos so far.
