Augsburg automation specialist Kuka and Volkswagen have concluded an agreement for a delivery system of more than 700 robots this year and the next two years. A decrease in incoming orders

Despite this major order, after strong growth last year, Kuka expects only a slight increase in the financial year 2024. Uncertainty and a weak economy put pressure on the economy and caused incoming orders to fall, as the company announced. The auto market has become very competitive.

Last year, sales increased by four percent to a healthy four billion euros, and profit before interest and taxes rose by 34 percent to almost 160 million euros. However, incoming orders fell by ten percent to four billion euros. Kuka employs around 3,750 people in Augsburg and 15,000 worldwide. The largest market is the USA with sales of around one billion euros.

Unprofitable plant engineering is being reformed

Things have been going wrong in the plant engineering business for years. Kuka will only announce how the division will become profitable again after negotiations with IG Metall and the works council to restructure the Kuka Systems division are completed.
